Activities for – absolute beginners, novices, intermediates.
All available all day from 10am until 4pm. Come for an hour – or six! Pick as many exercises as you like or have time for. All activities take place in a large pasture with scattered clumps of trees and lots of contour detail. There’s a fence all round the field.
Food: the club will provide lunch-time hot dogs and burgers with fixin’s, and hot/cold drinks; participants are welcome to bring potluck finger food contributions.
Location: Cooking Lake / Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area, Waskahegan Trailhead
Register on the day only, any time from 10am until 3pm. Registration will be inside or next to the shelter, adjacent to the parking lot.
Entry fees:
- non-members $10 per adult* (no charge for accompanying children)
- members FREE
* fees include maps, compass rental if needed, whistle if you don’t have one, hot dogs or hamburgers if you are there at lunch time.
Bring: a watch or other timepiece, extra water (there will be water on the map, too), clothing appropriate for the weather, a whistle if you have one (any kind will do), a compass if you have one, (sunscreen? sunglasses? hat?). A change of shoes and socks for afterwards might be a good idea – there are some marshes that are still wet.
Notes:
Shelter and outhouses next to the parking lot. Cell phones work over the whole mapped area.
Event goes rain or shine.
DIRECTIONS: 20km east of Sherwood Park Location map
Easiest route is east along the Yellowhead Hwy to the Elk Island National Park flag pole, then south down RR 210 for about 7km. Turn left into the Cooking Lake / Blackfoot Grazing Area, Waskehegan Trail Head parking lot. Registration will probably be in the shelter on the east side of the parking lot.
Or east along Baseline Road (becomes Twp 530) to the T junction with RR210. Turn right and go south for about 4km. Turn into the Cooking Lake / Blackfoot Grazing Area, Waskehegan Trail Head parking lot. Registration will probably be in the shelter on the east side of the parking lot.
Or east along Wye Road. Just after the road bends to the southeast, turn left onto Twp 524, crossing the railroad tracks. Continue east to the T junction with RR210. Turn right and drive south for just over 1km. Turn into the Blackfoot Grazing Area, Waskehegan Trail Head parking lot. Registration will probably be in the shelter on the east side of the parking lot.
